Phenomenal Science is a state-wide movement supporting teacher leaders through professional learning and in the development of K-5 grade science units. The units have been developed by the Central Michigan Science Mathematics Technology Center through funding by Michigan Virtual University and in collaboration with Oakland Schools, the Michigan Math Science Center Network, and through support of Michigan Department of Education. Professional Learning for teachers focuses on instructional strategies for implementing 3D learning in K-12 sciences, such as; productive talk, integration, notebooking, and planning inquiry cycles around anchoring phenomena. The units contain everything a teacher will need to facilitate three-dimensional science instruction according to the new Michigan Science Standards, except hands-on components. Additionally, the units will be free to all educators and encompass a complete K-5 science curriculum incorporating blended learning elements and integrating engineering, math, and language arts.

Our mission is to help educators create the next generation of scientific innovators as well as citizens who are skeptical, curious, and evidence-based thinkers. Our pedagogy invites students to explore phenomena with the purpose of solving authentic problems. Educators who adopt Amplify Science receive a turnkey curriculum complete with detailed lesson plans, embedded formative assessments, hands-on activities, digital simulations, and a variety of effective teacher supports.
Our breakthrough curriculum inspires students to read, write and argue like scientists to gain a better understanding of the world, as they gain the skills needed to master the NGSS. The NGSS have raised the bar in science education, moving the focus away from memorization and toward active engagement. Amplify Science is a robust, multimodal, hands-on program made to fulfill 100 percent of the NGSS, as well as a substantial number of the Common Core ELA and Math standards. |
Next Generation Storylines (K-12) has units or potentially an entire year's worth of curriculum designed to meet the 3-dimensioon learning as called for by the Next Generation Science Standards. On any given day, a visitor to a classroom should be able to walk over to a group of students and ask them- What are you working on? Why are you working on this? Students should be able to answer by describing a question they are trying to figure out or a problem they are trying to solve, and not just say because the teacher told us to do this.
A storyline is a coherent sequence of lessons, in which each step is driven by students' questions that arise from their interactions with phenomena. A student's goal should always be to explain a phenomenon or solve a problem. At each step, students make progress on the classroom's questions through science and engineering practices, to figure out a piece of a science idea. Each piece they figure out adds to the developing explanation, model, or designed solution. Each step may also generate questions that lead to the next step in the storyline. Together, what students figure out helps explain the unit's phenomena or solve the problems they have identified. A storyline provides a coherent path toward building disciplinary core idea and crosscutting concepts, piece by piece, anchored in students' own questions. |
Active Science is an investigation-centered, K-5 science program. It provides activities, experiments, discussions, and challenges that encourage students to develop the problem solving skills that will enable them to participate and interact in the scientific and technological environment of the modern world.Scientific knowledge is increasing rapidly in all fields. Active Science prepares future citizens of the world to be prepared to ask and answer why, as well as enable them to apply scientific information in order to solve new and complex problems.
Educators and scientists working together created Active Science with a thorough study of science and educational research, standards analysis, and investigation enhancements. The philosophy of the program is that students learn and remember science best when they are involved in hands-on explorations and investigations. Active Science lessons use a variety of instructional techniques to accommodate differentiation for a range of student learning styles, while students work in cooperative teams to interact, draw conclusions, and share ideas with their peers. Lessons encourage students to express and evaluate their preconceived ideas about how the world of science works. When students are able to test their ideas with real evidence and articulate what they have discovered by recording data into their Science Notebooks, the scientific learning becomes their own. |
The purpose of Cereal City Science curriculum is to provide thorough three-dimensional science instruction in the classroom for students to engage in all four strands of science proficiency. Based on that philosophy, Cereal City Science provides a Kindergarten through 8th grade science curriculum that is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, the Michigan Science Standards, and the Common Core Science Standards. The program provides three-dimensional science instruction in the classroom for students to engage in all four strands of science proficiency including physical science, life science, earth science, and inquiry and technology.

PhD Science is a phenomenon-driven curriculum built for grades 3-5. The K-2 curriculum will be piloted the fall of 2020 and released the following year. Through authentic anchor phenomenon, each module explores core science concepts to help students make sense of the world around them. Every lesson builds on the lessons before it, weaving a coherent story line for the module as students dig deep into each concept they're exploring. Through observation, questioning, modeling, investigation, and evidence-based argumentation, students build knowledge that they can demonstrate by applying their understanding in different contexts through Science or Engineering Challenges in each module. PhD Science helps move students from reading about science to doing science.
